Audio Visual Presentation by Steve Tyree. Fully narrated. 'Biological Light Requirements of Photosynthetic Corals'. This presentation includes 79 slide images and 60 minutes of highly detailed narration by Steve Tyree. This presentation examines the primary light collecting capabilities of the Symbiodinium algae within photosynthetic corals and compares these capapbilities with the spectral output of typical captive reef halide bulbs. Learn why the 20,000 K bulb works even though its PAR output is low and its spectral output is narrow. Also learn the strengths and weaknesses of 20,000 K, 10,000 K and 6,500 K bulbs. The main section of this presentation however is centered around the topic of colorful coral pigmentation. Learn about the three main types of coral pigments and also discover what scientist researching corals have discovered about these pigments. In addition to this, a simple technique called Light Bracketing is described which can be easily employed by aquarist to generally discover what type of pigments are contained within their specific corals. This is followed with an exciting possible discovery that may have occurred in one of Steve Tyree's reefs. Pigment grafting ! Learn how possibly the pigments of one coral were grafted onto and are growing on a coral from a different family. This audio visual presentation is available in two formats. The Video CD format will run on any DVD player (except XBOX DVD) just like a DVD movie. It is best viewed on a 20 inch or larger TV. The Video CD can also be viewed on a computer with a DVD and DVD player software. Basically, if you can view DVD movies you can view this Video CD. This presentation is also available in PC CDROM executable format. This PC CDROM contains an executable that runs the presentation on a windows PC with Windows XP, Windows millenium, Windows 2000 or Windows 1998. Minimum system requirements are a cdrom drive, at least 128 meg of memory and the processor needs to be at least 1 GHZ. The PC CDROM format is recommended for people who have a windows PC available. This is because this format is displayed in a high res format (1024 x 768) which contains incredible detail. The Video CD format has a normal ntsc (TV) resolution and we recommend that for people who do not have a windows PC or for people who want the comfort of viewing this presentation on a DVD and TV. Both formats are just $25.00 plus $2.50 postage and handling (California residents add 7.75 % Sales Tax). There are 79 slides fully narrated. Distributed by DE Publishing. Audio Visual Presentation by Steve Tyree. Fully narrated. 'Expanding the Zonal Concept to Captive Reef Filtration'. This presentation includes 70 slide images and 60 minutes of highly detailed narration by Steve Tyree. This presentation explains the new Zonal Natural Filtration System that Steve Tyree has been researching for the past 7 years. This all natural captive reef filtration method requires no sediments and no lighted algal sumps. Basically, a cryptic zone replaces the protein skimmer commonly utilized on 'Berlin' reef systems. This basic concept however has been expanded to examine captive and natural reefs with a new zonal perspective. Zones such as the Cryptic Zone, the Semi-Cryptic Zone and the Filter Feeder Zone have been devised by Steve Tyree. These new zones are based on captive research, on feedback from scuba divers and they are also based on researching the scientific literature. A standalone Trizonal system for example consumes less electricity then a Berlin system or a system being naturally filtered by algae. This standalone Trizonal also contains absolutely no plumbing, which translates to never experiencing a plumbing leak. Within this presentation there is also an exciting discovery documented. Cryptic Reef Plankton ! These truelly pelagic planktonic copepods seem to prefer living within a cryptic zone or a darkly lighted cave. If you have a cryptic zone or a deep cave or even an external sump with very weak water currents, you might have a population of these cryptic planktonic copepods in your system right now ! This CD contains 5 slide presentations that include graphics, images and text. Text is in English. There is a slide presentation covering sponges and one covering sea squirts. These two presentations will introduce the captive reef aquarists to maintaining sponges and sea squirts in captivity. Some basic biology and physiology is also discussed. The types of food and habitats that tropical sponge and sea squirts experience in nature is also discussed. Some examples of tropical sponge and sea squirt species are also displayed. The other three slide presentations cover the natural filtration system developed by Steve Tyree that is based on utilizing sponges and sea squirts instead of a protein skimmer. An introduction to this environmental gradient concept is covered within one slide presentation. The second phase research of this concept expands on these basic ideals to involve establishing zones within the captive reef system. These zones mimic the specific habitats that groups or species of animals experience across the tropical reef platform. A separate slide presentation covers the Tri-Zonal Filtration system. The fifth slide presentation covers some specific engineering issues that aquarists setting up these types of systems need to be aware of. A web site discussing this system can be found at the following link .
